Police constable hacked, accused snatched in Bagerhat

A warranted accused was snatched away after a police constable was hacked with a sharp weapon in Kachua upazila, Bagerhat. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, March 18, in Khalishakhali village under Maghia union. Additional police have been deployed in the area to control the situation, and tensions remain high.

According to police sources, a seven-member team led by SI Anisur Rahman and ASI Imdadul Islam conducted a raid at the house of Nadeem Sheikh, 33, a warranted accused and son of late Goffar Sheikh from Khalishakhali village, to arrest him.

While bringing Nadeem back after the raid, his younger brother Sagor Sheikh launched a sudden attack on police with a locally made sharp weapon. He aimed a blow at Constable Raju Khan, severely injuring his right hand. Taking advantage of the attack, Nadeem and Sagor fled the scene.

Injured Constable Raju Khan was quickly rescued and taken to Kachua Upazila Health Complex. Later, as his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Khulna 250-bed Hospital for advanced treatment.

Kachua Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shafiqur Rahman said operations have been launched to arrest the fleeing accused and recover the weapon used in the attack. Legal action will be taken swiftly regarding the attack on police.
