Police detains ex-CMP commissioner Saiful
Police on Wednesday arrested the former commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan police (CMP), Saiful Islam, in a murder case.
The case was filed with the port city's Chandgaon Police Station over the murder of a student in a clash during July mass uprising.
Saiful was the 32nd commissioner of CMP.
Confirming his arrest, CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz told the media on Wednesday afternoon, "Based on a specific allegation, he (Saiful) was arrested by police in Dhaka and a team of CMP went to Dhaka to bring him back."
He has been arrested in a case filed with Chandgoan Police Station, he said.
As an officer of Bangladesh Civil Services' 20th batch, Saiful Islam earlier served as deputy inspector general police at Metro rail (MRT) in Dhaka before posting as CMP commissioner.
