Police have lodged a general diary (GD) over an altercation between independent lawmaker Rumeen Farhana and Sarail Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Manzur Kader Bhuiyan.

The GD was filed at Sarail Police Station on Thursday night, but the development came to light yesterday (Friday) evening.

Confirming the matter, OC Manzur Kader said police were preparing a list of those who accompanied the lawmaker at the police station.

Further action would be taken in line with instructions from senior police officials, he added.

Rumeen, who represents Brahmanbaria-2, comprising Sarail, Ashuganj and part of Bijoynagar, along with her supporters went to the OC's office at around 7:30pm on Thursday. An altercation ensued over alleged security lapses and police misconduct.

Several videos of their heated exchange later circulated on Facebook.

Her supporters said tensions between the MP and the OC had been building over the past few days, alleging that the officer had not responded to calls from the lawmaker and her personal assistant, Zakir Hossain.

They also claimed that Farhana had sought security but did not receive it.

After the incident, Rumeen said she had visited the police station to discuss various allegations against the OC. She said she had brought a two-page list detailing alleged offences by date, but the OC neither commented on the allegations nor provided satisfactory answers.

Meanwhile, her personal assistant Zakir Hossain said they would submit a written complaint against the OC to senior police officials. The process was underway, he added.
