Police today have fired water cannons and sound grenades to disperse a group of demonstrators gathered in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka demanding certificates for all candidates who participated in the 18th teacher registration oral examination.

The protest began around 11:00am. Authorities intervened when protesters attempted to march beyond the designated protest area.

Despite repeated warnings, the demonstrators continued chanting slogans, prompting police to take action at approximately 11:23am. Then water cannons and sound grenades were deployed to break up the crowd.

Protesters allege that the results were manipulated to disqualify a record 20,688 candidates, denying them certification despite their performance in the earlier stages.

"Our demand is clear," one protester said. "All viva participants should be issued teacher registration certificates after a transparent re-evaluation."

A similar demonstration was held in front of the Non-Government Teachers' Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) office on June 15.
