Bangladeshi Students Killed in Florida
Police hand over Limon's body to Tampa authorities, repatriation in 2 or 3 days
The body of Bangladeshi PhD student Jamal Limon, who was killed in the United States, has been handed over to local authorities in Tampa, South Florida, by US law enforcement, paving the way for its repatriation to Bangladesh.
The transfer was completed on Tuesday (April 28), according to a statement shared on social media by Golam Mortoza, Press Minister at the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington.
In his post, Mortoza said the decision to release the body was made following coordination between the Bangladesh Consulate in Miami, members of the Bangladeshi community, and the University of South Florida authorities.
He added that the consulate also obtained consent from the victim’s family prior to the handover.
Officials said the process of transporting the body to Bangladesh is now underway and may take another two to three days to complete.
Limon, 27, had been missing since April 16 along with fellow Bangladeshi student Nahida Brishti. His body was later recovered on Friday from near the Howard Frankland Bridge, reportedly found inside a black trash bag.
Brishti remains missing, although police have recovered unidentified human remains from the same area, which are currently undergoing forensic examination.
In connection with the case, 26-year-old Hisham Abu Garbiyeh has been arrested and ordered to be held without bail. He faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, moving a body, and evidence tampering, and remains in police custody as investigations continue.
