Police inspector dies of electrocution in Faridpur

Md Abir Hossain, 55, a police inspector, has died after being electrocuted on the roof of his own house in Faridpur town. Electrician Abdul Aziz, 25, was also injured in the incident.

The accident occurred on the roof of a four-storey building at Goalchamot Khodabox Road area of the town around 2:30pm on Saturday (August 22).

The deceased Abir Hossain was serving as a police inspector at Naria Circle Office of Shariatpur. He was the son of Abu Bakar Mollah of Gopalpur village under Alfadanga upazila of Faridpur. He had come home on leave from his workplace last Thursday.

According to police and local sources, electrician Abdul Aziz was doing electrical work on the roof of Abir Hossain’s house in the afternoon. While working he suddenly got electrocuted. At that time Abir Hossain also got electrocuted while trying to rescue him.

Later both were rescued and taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. The doctor on duty at the emergency department declared Abir Hossain dead. The injured Abdul Aziz is currently undergoing treatment at the surgery ward of the hospital.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station Mahmudul Hasan confirmed the incident and said the process of taking legal action is under way over the death of the police inspector due to electrocution.
