Police launch probe into attack on Shakib Al Hasan's Magura home

Police have launched an investigation into the reported attack on the Magura residence of former Bangladesh captain and ex-MP Shakib Al Hasan, although no formal complaint has yet been filed by his family or any other party.

Investigators are treating the incident seriously and are working to determine the motive and identify those responsible, Abdul Al Mamun, officer-in-charge (OC) of Magura Sadar Police Station, said on Thursday (August 6).

The attack allegedly took place around 8:45pm on Wednesday, when assailants reportedly hurled petrol bombs and bricks at Shakib's house in the Keshab More area of Magura town. Police rushed to the scene and began a preliminary investigation.

Investigators found burn marks on part of the main gate along with scattered bricks around the property. A Thursday morning inspection also revealed fire and smoke stains near the southern entrance, while two second-floor windows and a glass panel on the exterior staircase were found damaged.

Local residents said the incident created panic in the neighbourhood, though most declined to comment publicly.

Police said one of Shakib's ailing relatives currently lives in the house. The family has yet to issue an official statement or disclose the extent of the damage.

Authorities have stepped up security in the area and said additional police will be deployed if necessary as the investigation continues.
