Police officer dies after being pushed from auto-rickshaw
Traffic police officer Abdul Quddus, who was critically injured after being pushed from a moving battery-run auto-rickshaw in Chattogram, has died.
After five days in intensive care, he succumbed to his injuries at Chattogram Medical College Hospital on Wednesday morning, May 20.
Abdul Quddus was serving in the Traffic West division of Chattogram Metropolitan Police. He was the son of Abu Yusuf Majumdar of Chhagalnaiya upazila in Feni.
On Friday night, he seized an illegal battery-run auto-rickshaw during a drive in the Rasmoni Ghat area under Pahartali police station. While being taken to the Mansurad dumping station with the help of the driver, the driver suddenly pushed him off the moving vehicle. Abdul Quddus suffered severe head injuries after hitting a road divider.
Locals rushed him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where he was later moved to the ICU. He died around 10:00 am on Wednesday.
Confirming the matter, Chattogram Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner (Media) Aminur Rashid said a case had already been filed at Pahartali police station. The accused driver, Abdul Jalil, was arrested with the help of locals and is currently in jail. A murder case is now being prepared.
