Police officers order suspension of carrom games, TV during Ramadan in Kushtia
A police officer has ordered a tea stall owner to stop playing carrom and watch television during Ramadan in Kushtia Sadar upazila, despite the absence of any directive from senior authorities.
Later, the video of the event went viral on social media platform in which Kushtia-3 (Sadar) MP Amir Hamza was seen at the scene on Friday.
In the video, Mosiul Azam, the in-charge (SI) of the Patikabari camp of the Islamic University Police Station, is seen in civilian clothes, pointing his finger at the tea vendor.
He said, 'No carrom and TV will be allowed during the time of Taraweeh' and moved towards the carrom board.
MP Amir Hamza stood nearby and said, 'Whatever you do, don't let this happen during prayers. Ramadan is a month of pryers.'
Tea vendor Ramzan said that only a few people were sitting in the shop and watching TV. Local Member Kashem said, 'It is not right to stop these suddenly, the youth need entertainment. However, playing carrom for money is not good.'
SI Mosiul said, it was intended to show respect for Islam and no action was taken against anyone.
EB Police Station OC Masud Rana and Kushtia Police Superintendent Jasim Uddin said there was no government directive for the incident.
SP Jasim Uddin also said, opening and closing shops during Ramadan is not a matter of law, it is a matter of people's personal feelings.
