Police officer's wife found hanging in Sabujbagh
Police have recovered the hanging body of a police officer's wife in the capital's Sabujbagh area. The family of the deceased, Nilufar Yasmin, 29, said she had been suffering from depression for a long time.
The body was recovered from a rented flat in the South Gaon Shahibagh area on Sunday morning, June 28.
Nilufar Yasmin's husband, Anwar Hossain, is a Sub-Inspector (SI) of Gazipur Metropolitan Police. They were married approximately 14 years ago and have a 10-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter.
According to Sabujbagh Police Station, the couple spoke in the early morning. When Anwar Hossain could not reach his wife after repeated calls, he informed the police station. Upon receiving the information, SI Fatema of Sabujbagh Police Station went to the spot and found the door locked from inside. The body was recovered hanging from a ceiling fan.
After legal procedures, the body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. It is believed that she died between 4:30 am and 8:30 am.
A cousin of the deceased said Nilufar lived with her daughter in the South Gaon Shahibagh area. Their son studies at a residential madrasa.
Police said Anwar Hossain stated that Nilufar would easily become anxious over various matters, particularly about their son's education. He suspects she may have taken her own life due to mental distress.
However, police are awaiting the autopsy report and investigation findings to determine the exact cause of death.
Nilufar's ancestral home is in Bikrobil village, Roumari upazila, Kurigram. Her father is Nur Islam.
