Police picks up woman with 6-month-old twins, posts photos on Facebook
A housewife was arrested late at night in a land dispute case along with her 6-month-old twins and taken to the police station. The next day, the photos of the woman and her babies were published on the police station's official Facebook page, which has drawn widespread criticism and accusations of defamation.
The incident took place on July 9 in her native Banail village of Chandipasha Union in Nandail Upazila.
The housewife complained that she was not at the scene during the land dispute, yet a case was filed and an arrest warrant was issued against her. A police team came late at night and took her along with her two children.
The next day, photos of the housewife and the twins along with other accused were published on the police station's Facebook page. The plaintiff used these photos to spread various propaganda. This has damaged her reputation and left her mentally broken.
She said that she would not have been so ashamed if she had not posted the photos on Facebook. Now she is ashamed to even go in front of her neighbours and relatives.
Her husband said that the opponent is harassing the family in a false case. He has demanded justice against the police action and social defamation.
Mymensingh Judge Court lawyer Habibur Rahman Fakir said that there is no provision to arrest the accused by going to their homes late at night. It is also unacceptable for the police to publish pictures of women and children on Facebook.
Nandail Model Police Station OC Anwar Hossain admitted that the matter was a 'mistake'.
He told the media: "To prevent such incidents from happening in the future, more caution will be taken in publishing pictures of the arrested accused."
Gouripur Circle SP Debashish Karmakar told the media that the faces of the women and children should have been blurred before posting the pictures. If that is not done, action will be taken against those involved in the crime.
