Police pistol looted during July uprising recovered in Narayanganj

RAB-11 has recovered a police pistol, which was looted from a police station during the July mass uprising, by conducting a raid on an under-construction building in Fatullah, Narayanganj. A magazine, four CCTV cameras, two catapults (gulti), and a hand mic were also recovered along with the weapon.

The special operational team of RAB-11 conducted the raid around 12:30am on the night of Saturday (August 15) in the Katherpul area under Fatullah Model Police Station, based on a tip-off.

According to RAB, the raid was launched following information that the under-construction building was being used as a den for mugging and drug consumption. Sensing the presence of law enforcement personnel, several individuals inside the building managed to flee. Subsequently, a thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of the pistol alongside other items.

During the search, a Type-54 (7.62) pistol and its magazine were discovered. RAB claimed that the recovered firearm is a police weapon looted from a police station during the July mass uprising. However, details regarding how the weapon reached the building and who was involved have not been disclosed immediately.

Additionally, four CCTV cameras, two catapults, and a hand microphone were seized. Authorities are investigating the intended purpose of keeping these items at the location.

RAB-11 Company Commander Lieutenant Commander Naimul Haque stated that the operation was carried out based on secret information, resulting in the recovery of the pistol and various other pieces of evidence. The recovered weapon and materials have been handed over to Fatullah Police Station for necessary legal action.

RAB noted that standard legal procedures regarding the recovered firearm are underway, and efforts are ongoing to identify and verify the involvement of the individuals who fled the scene.
