Police recover 10 firearms at Sylhet checkpost
Police have recovered 10 firearms during a checkpost operation in Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet.
The incident took place at dawn on January 19 at a police checkpost set up on the Sylhet–Tamabil highway near Pakitaki Karichar Bridge in Fatepur union in the early Monday (January 19), according to a statement from the Sylhet district police media cell.
However, two suspects fled the scene leaving behind a motorcycle and a bag containing the weapons.
Police said two individuals arrived at the checkpost on an unregistered motorcycle and attempted to flee after being signaled to stop. The suspects abandoned the motorcycle and a white plastic sack before escaping on foot.
A search of the abandoned bag led to the recovery of 10 firearms—four new Indian-made camouflage-colored airguns and six new black airguns. An old Suzuki Gixxer motorcycle was also seized.
Police said legal proceedings are underway at Jaintapur Model Police Station, and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the suspects.
