Dhaka Metropolitan Police have removed a sacrificial cattle market that had been set up illegally under a metro rail station in Uttara, capital, blocking the road. The move has eased the traffic congestion in the area.

The drive was conducted by DMP's Uttara division at the Diabari cattle market area on Tuesday, May 26.

DMP's Media and Public Relations Division Deputy Commissioner N M Nasir Uddin said a large number of sacrificial animals had arrived at the Diabari cattle market from across the country. However, animals were illegally tied outside the designated market boundaries, on the main road and under the metro rail station, causing traffic disruptions.

To reduce public suffering, the Uttara division took immediate steps to clear the road. Animals were removed from under the metro station, and traffic was normalised through diversions.

Police said the market lessee was called to the spot and warned. It was made clear that no market or animal would be allowed on the road. Violation of this directive would result in a mobile court being conducted and the lessee fined.
