Police stopped Bangasena while trying to besiege Bangladesh mission in Kolkata

Bangasena, an organisation, has attempted to besiege the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata. Its activists and supporters held a protest procession demanding security for minority communities in Bangladesh, establishment of an independent Sanatani state and the release of Chinmoy Krishna Das on Saturday (October 31). However, they could not reach the main gate of the Deputy High Commission due to resistance from Kolkata Police.

The procession started from Sealdah Station premises on Saturday. Along with Bangasena activists and supporters, many people in saffron attire and sannyasis-sannyasinis took part in it. Raising various slogans, the procession advanced towards the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission located at Park Circus.

When the procession neared the mission, Kolkata Police, already prepared, stopped the protesters with barricades. They were halted about 300 yards away from the Deputy High Commission. There was minor argument and jostling with the police at that time, but the police kept the situation under control.

Later, Bangasena members took position in front of the barricade and protested for a long time in support of their demands. Their programme caused temporary disruption to vehicular movement in Park Circus and surrounding areas.

As the Deputy High Commission remained closed on Saturday, the organisation’s representatives could not submit any memorandum. Additional police had been deployed in advance at the Deputy High Commission and surrounding areas to avoid any unwanted situation.

This is the second incident of tension in front of the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata this month. Earlier on October 3, members of the Nationalist Citizens Party of India and sannyasis of Vivekananda Mission Seva Pratisthan had staged a sit-in outside the mission with almost the same demands and submitted a memorandum to mission officials.
