The Security Services Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a notification to simplify the process for citizens to obtain passports. Under the new directive, passports will be issued using the information from the National Identity Card, eliminating the need for police verification.

Signed by Kazi Golam Tousif, the Additional Secretary of the Security Services Division, the notification was released on Tuesday(February 18).

According to the directive, for new passport applications, passports will be issued based on online-verified National Identity Card information, bypassing the police verification process.

For Bangladeshi citizens living abroad and minors, passports will be issued based on verified birth registration certificates, also without requiring police verification.

The directive further states that for passport renewals, if there are any changes in key details (such as name, parent's name, birth date, or place of birth) compared to the existing passport, the new passport will be issued using the information on the National Identity Card.
