Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka Metropolitan North Ameer Mohammad Selim Uddin has said that if elected, police will not be allowed to visit anyone’s home in his constituency without his knowledge and without specific allegations supported by adequate evidence.

He made the remarks while addressing an election rally at Dhaka Dakshin Union in Golapganj upazila on Tuesday ( January 27).

Selim Uddin is contesting the upcoming 13th parliamentary election from Sylhet-6 (Golapganj–Beanibazar) as a candidate of the 11-party alliance.

“Sylhet’s people have a strong sense of dignity. A police visit to a home affects the honour of an entire family,” he said, alleging that some police officers, aided by local brokers, engage in extortion in the name of filing cases. “If I am elected, no police officer will be able to go to anyone’s house in these two upazilas without informing me.”

He further said police must present concrete evidence and specific complaints before visiting a home. “Without proof that allegations exist, no officer will be allowed to enter anyone’s house. This is my final word,” he said.

Speaking on law and order, Selim told voters that casting ballots for the Scales symbol would ensure public safety. “Otherwise, people will not even feel safe returning home after withdrawing money from a bank or shopping at the market,” he claimed.

Criticising political extortion, he alleged that people are being forced to pay money while building houses or opening shops, and that some individuals even leave petrol pumps without paying. “No one will be allowed to do such things in Golapganj and Beanibazar,” he said.

Issuing a warning, Selim said any attack on innocent traders or ordinary citizens would be treated as an attack on him personally, vowing to resist such acts with public support.

The rally was also attended by senior 11-party alliance leader and Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque, along with leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and allied parties.
