Police will quiz teenagers roaming unnecessarily at night: Education Minister
Police will quiz teenagers found roaming the streets at night unnecessarily, said Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon.
"The unnecessary roaming of teenagers on the streets at night must be stopped. From now on, if anyone is found on the streets at night, the police will interrogate them. If this results in a constitutional violation, we will look into that later," he said.
He made the remarks while exchanging views with local administration officials in Chandpur's Kachua upazila on Friday.
Emphasising women's safety, he said, "My daughters, your sisters, your mothers – they must remain safe. Under no circumstances should there be even a single incident of eve-teasing. In the case of teenagers, there must be a zero-tolerance policy on this issue."
Referring to past incidents during the election period, Milon said he had observed groups of teenagers roaming the streets throughout the night and reacting aggressively when questioned.
"We want Kachua to be a safe zone, and that must be ensured. There is no alternative," he added.
During the meeting, he also pledged a zero-tolerance stance on corruption. "I will not engage in corruption in my life, nor will I allow anyone else to do so. This is my promise," he said.
Milon warned officials that those unable to align with his anti-corruption position may seek transfer elsewhere. "If you cannot stand by this promise, please transfer from here. Or inform me, and I will arrange a suitable transfer. But I will keep this place clean," he added.
