Leaders of several political parties who participated in the meeting on Sunday said they would stand by the interim government and the chief adviser. At the same time, they supported the government's initiatives on ongoing reforms and judicial activities and elections.
Leaders of several political parties held a meeting with the chief adviser at the Jamuna State Guest House in Dhaka on Sunday. Later, the chief adviser's press secretary, Shafiqul Alam, informed reporters about this.
The press secretary said: "The political party leaders who participated in the meeting today supported the government's initiatives on ongoing reforms and judicial activities and elections. They said they would stand by the government and the chief adviser."
The chief adviser told the leaders that the elections will be held between December this year and June next year. There will be no deviation from this.
Shafiqul Alam said: "Political leaders have expressed satisfaction with the chief adviser's words."
Quoting Professor Yunus, the press secretary said: "The chief adviser told the meeting that we are in a major war situation after the Awami League's activities were banned. They are now trying to create instability in the country in any way they can. So we have to be saved from division. We have to have consensus among ourselves."
Stating that the Awami League wants to push us back, Professor Yunus said: "As a self-reliant nation, we should move forward as much as we have been able to after the July Revolution."
The chief adviser expressed his strong conviction on organizing the elections and said: "If we cannot hold fair elections, I will feel guilty." Addressing political leaders, Professor Yunus said: "As long as I am in charge, I guarantee that no evil work will be done by the country."
He commented that he had a great opportunity to build the country that was destroyed due to the July coup.
In response to a question, the press secretary said: "Our government has three tasks. Elections, reforms and judicial activities. When we can carry out complete reforms, you will see that people will have confidence in the elections."
Yesterday, the chief adviser held a meeting with the leaders of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islam and NCP.
