Politicians have lost unity: Mirza Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that Bangladesh lost a historic opportunity to rebuild the nation following the student–public uprising due to a lack of unity among political leaders.
He made the remarks on Monday (October 20) while addressing an event organized by Bishwabidyaloy Porikrama at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh, in the capital’s Kakrail area.
“When dissonance and division dominate the political landscape, many of us inevitably lose hope,” he observed.
He pointed to a “significant generational divide” between the perspectives of Generation Z and those of the older generations, calling it a reality that cannot be ignored.
Holding politicians and bureaucratic inertia responsible for the education sector’s stagnation, Fakhrul said, “Education has long been neglected in policy priorities. Today, even graduates struggle to find employment, while diploma holders in technical fields secure jobs with ease—this reflects a fundamental policy failure.”
He emphasized that higher education should be reserved for the truly meritorious, while greater focus must be placed on expanding technical and vocational training to build a skilled workforce.
At the programme, SSC students who achieved GPA-5 were honoured. Fakhrul handed them crests and certificates, encouraging them to prepare for the challenges of an increasingly competitive global environment. “The future is calling you—equip yourselves to lead,” he told the students.
The event was presided over by BNP Training Affairs Secretary Rasheda Begum Hira and conducted by Bishwabidyaloy Porikrama Managing Editor Mobarak Hossain.
