Poll has been better than expected: CEC
Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal has said that the 12th National Assembly election has been better than expected.
He said: “The election was better than expected. I didn't expect that much. Around 40 percent vote were cast and there was no violence, no deaths. Moreover, we were able to take immediate action where there were some irregularities. From that point of view, the election was fairly well controlled.”
The CEC said this while visiting the media stalls set up in the election commission building during the announcement of the election results on Sunday.
Replying to a query about irregularities during the poll, he said: "I have not seen closely whether it has been neutral or not. If anyone complains it will be seen later.”
The Chief Election Commissioner said that the Election Commission has no responsibility or duty in this regard. “Acceptance is a public matter.”
