Poll participation not illegal, apology for possible moral lapses: Chunnu
Jatiya Party Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu has defended the party’s participation in the national elections, stating it was fully within the bounds of legality. However, he issued an unconditional apology to the nation for any possible moral mistakes made in the process.
Speaking at the party’s 10th National Council held at the Emmanuel Party Center on Saturday (August 9), Chunnu acknowledged public criticism surrounding the Jatiya Party’s political decisions and election participation in recent years.
“We participated in the elections as a political party. There was nothing illegal in that. But if there was any moral lapse or error in judgment, I apologize unconditionally to the people of Bangladesh,” he said.
Chunnu, who has held the position of Secretary General for the past four years, admitted that mistakes may have occurred during his tenure. He requested the public and party members to view those with forgiveness, emphasizing that political parties, despite their intentions, do not always make perfect decisions.
He reiterated that the Jatiya Party remains committed to democratic values and peaceful politics. “We are a modern political party. We want to move forward with the people and operate within the framework of the constitution and the law. We call on all political parties and the government to cooperate in this effort,” he added.
The council was attended by key leaders of the party. Jatiya Party Chairman Anwar Hossain Manju was present as chief guest, with Acting Chairman Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud presiding over the session. Senior leaders including Co-Chairman ABM Ruhul Amin, Secretary General Sheikh Shahidul Islam, and Co-Chairman Kazi Firoz Rashid were also present as special guests.
