Polls only possible by June if EC operates properly: Rizvi

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi stated that national elections could only take place by June if the Election Commission (EC) functions properly.

He made the remarks during a meeting and prayer programme with the victim's families in Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj during the mass uprising.

The event was held at Bhuban Mohan Park in Rajshahi at 11:30 am on Friday (March 7).

Rizvi emphasized, “We have a constitution—why is there talk of a Constituent Assembly? Such statements are causing confusion among the public.”

He also criticized the government’s actions, claiming that India had turned Bangladesh into a subservient state, alleging that Sheikh Hasina’s associates have found refuge in India.

He further questioned on India's process in collaboration with the United States for discussing Bangladesh’s issues. "Who gave India the authority to do so," he said.

Rizvi accused Sheikh Hasina of targeting the BNP and using the court to emplement her personal anger.

A donation of one lakh taka was provided to the martyr’s family, while 50 thousand taka was given to those injured during the clashes.

BNP leaders and activists from the central, Rajshahi Metropolitan, and District BNP, along with affiliated organizations, participated in the event.
