Pond guard killed in Shibganj, eyes gouged out
A pond guard, Tuzammel Haque Toju, 65, was allegedly killed after his eyes were gouged out in Shibganj of Chapainawabganj. The incident occurred on Saturday night at the Nunya pond bank area beside Muslimpur village under Shahabajpur Union. Toju was the son of the late Junab Ali of Pardilalpur village.
His son Nafiuallah, 25, said his father worked as a guard at Belal Uddin’s Nunya pond. He rushed to the spot after receiving a phone call in the morning and found his father’s body. “Someone gouged out my father’s eyes and killed him under the cover of darkness,” he said.
Toju’s wife Nilufa Begum and daughter Sayema Khatun said they had no known enemies.
Local resident Shakil Hasan said they helped recover the body after receiving the news.
Chapainawabganj superintendent of police Gautam Kumar Bishwas said the victim had multiple injuries on his body and his left eye was gouged out. He said the body had been sent to the district hospital morgue for post-mortem examination and the case was being investigated with utmost priority. He added that the perpetrators would be arrested soon and brought to justice.
