Posters demanding release of Awami League leaders appear in Noakhali

Posters have been put up at various important locations in Noakhali demanding the release of former leaders and public representatives of the banned Awami League. The posters refer to the arrested Awami League leaders and activists as 'political prisoners' and demand their unconditional release.

The posters were seen on Monday afternoon (September 7) at several locations in the district town, including areas in front of Kabirhat Police Station. The incident has sparked discussion and criticism in the local political arena. However, most police officials in the district said they were unaware of the posters.

The posters demanded the release of former MP for Noakhali-4 Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, former MPs for Hatiya Mohammad Ali and Ayesha Ali, former chairman of Noakhali Zila Parishad Abdul Wadud Pinto, and other arrested leaders and activists of the banned Awami League across the country.

The posters referred to these individuals as 'political prisoners' and demanded their unconditional release, also calling for the release of others who were "unjustly and forcibly arrested" across the country on the orders of the "oppressive government."

The name of Jasim Uddin Shahin, chairman of No. 7 Batua Union Parishad and former vice president of Noakhali District Chhatra League, was mentioned at the bottom of the posters.

However, it could not be confirmed who, when and how the posters were put up at various locations. No official statement has been issued by the administration regarding the matter.

Kabirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Romel Barua said he was not aware of the matter and was looking into it.
