Pregnant woman crushed to death by falling tree amid storm in Naogaon

A pregnant woman from the Bede community died after a tree fell on her during a Kalbaishakhi storm in Atrai, Naogaon. The deceased was Arafatun, 20, who was three months pregnant.

She died while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on Monday, April 27. Earlier in the morning, the incident occurred in the Bede colony by the Atrai river adjacent to the government college ground.

Locals said that 25 to 30 families of the Bede community had been living under polythene shelters along the Atrai riverbank. A sudden storm with rain began early in the morning. When a eucalyptus tree broke and fell, the pregnant woman was trapped underneath. She was rescued in critical condition and taken to the upazila health complex. Later, as her condition deteriorated, she was referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Naogaon Superintendent of Police Tariqul Islam said he visited the spot after learning of the incident and assured the family of full cooperation.
