Pregnant woman dies of dengue in Chattogram

A pregnant woman named Arpita Das (26) has died after being infected with dengue in Chattogram. She died while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of Chattogram Medical College Hospital on Friday. She was an assistant teacher at Sunrise Grammar School in the city's Patharghata area. Her expected date of delivery was in the second week of next month.

Brigadier General Mohammad Taslim Uddin, director of Chattogram Medical College Hospital, said Arpita was brought to the hospital on Thursday. She was kept in the ICU as her condition deteriorated. Arpita, who was suffering from dengue shock syndrome, died on Friday afternoon. She was pregnant. The unborn child also died with the mother.

Arpita was diagnosed with dengue on September 6. She was admitted to a private hospital the next day. She was later taken to another private hospital after her condition worsened. From there, she was admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital on Thursday.

Earlier, on Wednesday, an eight-year-old child named Abrar died while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Abrar, a resident of Halishahar area, was suffering from expanded dengue syndrome.

According to the Chattogram Civil Surgeon's Office, six people died of dengue in the district in the first 11 days of September. With this, the death toll from dengue in Chattogram this year has risen to 11, according to relevant medical sources. However, a report published by the Civil Surgeon's Office on Saturday afternoon mentioned the death toll as 10.

Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Sajedur Rahman said Arpita Das died while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital. After receiving the death review report, she will be added to the list of dengue deaths. The matter will be mentioned in the next report.

According to the Civil Surgeon's Office report, among the 10 people who died of dengue in Chattogram this year, five are women, three are men and two are children.

On Saturday, 60 patients were admitted to the dengue ward of Chattogram Medical College Hospital. The highest number of dengue patients in the district are receiving treatment at this hospital.

In the first 11 days of September, 760 new dengue patients were detected in Chattogram district. Earlier, 1,202 were detected in August.
