An eight-month pregnant woman was killed and two others injured when a speeding bus of Monzil Paribahan rammed into a stationary motorcycle on the Jatrabari flyover Thursday morning.

The deceased, Meherunnesa Bhumi, 22, was traveling with her husband, Md Musa Kalimullah, to Ad-Din Hospital for a medical check-up. Around 11:00 AM, while waiting at a traffic signal, their motorcycle and another one beside them were struck from behind by the bus.

Meherunnesa was thrown off the motorcycle and critically injured. She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors pronounced her dead at around 12:00 PM.

Her husband Kalimullah and the other motorcyclist, identified as Rana, sustained injuries. Rana’s condition is reported to be critical.

“We live in a rented home near Saddam Market in Matuail,” Kalimullah said. “Our village home is in Ghagra village, Kachua, Chandpur. We have a daughter.”

Rana is a resident of Bairer Kandi in Shibchar, Madaripur, and currently lives in Kadamtali.

Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the incident, adding that the body has been kept in the hospital morgue and the concerned police station has been notified.
