Pregnant woman’s body recovered from river in Rangamati

The body of a woman who went missing after falling into a river in Bilaischhari has been recovered.

The incident occurred around 9:00 AM on Tuesday when Lata Marma, 33, wife of Milon Kanti Chakma of Kengrachhari village, fell into the river near the Keranchhari area while traveling by boat to Bilaischhari market.

Two hours later, locals retrieved her body using a fishing net at around 11:30 AM.

Her husband, Milon Kanti Chakma, said that Lata was three months pregnant. The couple has two daughters and one son.

Bilaischhari Police Station OC Manas Barua confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary investigations indicate she died after accidentally falling into the river. Her body will be handed over to the family following legal procedures.
