Pre-monsoon thunderstorms hit Dhaka ahead of Eid

Dhaka and several other regions experienced severe pre-monsoon thunderstorms Friday (March 20), with heavy rain, gusty winds, and lightning striking parts of the capital.

The sky over Dhaka turned dark by mid-morning, followed by dust storms and sudden downpours. Some areas reported intermittent dust squalls around 11:00am. The storms were accompanied by frequent lightning and power fluctuations.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) warned that the weather system, influenced by a low-pressure area and seasonal conditions, may bring more thunderstorms with heavy rain across Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions over the next 24 hours.

Showers are also possible in Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram, with isolated hail in some areas.

Daytime temperatures may drop slightly, while nighttime temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged.
