Preparations being made to announce election schedule in October: CEC
Preparations are being made to announce the schedule of the national election in October itself, said Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin.
He made this statement while addressing reporters after a meeting with British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke at the Election Building in Agargaon in the capital on Monday (March 10).
Asked by reporters whether he had boarded the national election train or not, the CEC said, "We have been working on preparations for the national election since the day the chief advisor made the announcement. However, the chief advisor will make the announcement for the national election."
He said, "Our timeline is December; we are working with this in mind. If the elections are held in December, the schedule will have to be announced in October. We are preparing in such a way that we do not miss the timeline."
AMM Nasir Uddin said, "We did not talk about the local government elections with the British High Commissioner; we talked about preparations for the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections. We have informed our preparations." We have asked them for help. We have asked for help in training the candidate's agents and observers. They want to help us, they want to know what kind of help we need.
The CEC also said, they came to know about the preparations for the parliamentary elections, what stage we are at and what kind of preparations are going on. The UK wants to help us with the democratic transition in Bangladesh. They wanted to know about foreign observers; we have told everything. We have told everything we are doing. We have told about voter registration and party registration. We will do the work of appointing foreign observers on time.
