Home adviser of the interim government Lt General retired Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that comprehensive preparations for the upcoming 13th parliamentary election are well underway. He stated that all pre-election arrangements are progressing in phases to ensure a festive, transparent and acceptable voting atmosphere.

He made the remarks on Monday, December 8, after the meeting of the advisory committee on law and order at the Secretariat.

The adviser said, “Preparations are very good. All forces are continuing their training, which will be completed by January. We are taking every necessary measure for a fair and festive election. Law enforcement will use body cameras at polling centres. Uninterrupted electricity will be ensured at every centre.”

He also said that expecting crimes and murders to stop completely before the election is unrealistic. “I do not have any magic wand that will suddenly stop crime — that is not how it works.”

Regarding the Jatiya Party, the home adviser said all political parties are active now. “Some want to carry out politics from home and they even have issues regarding their party offices.”

He also said that stern directives have been issued to arrest those involved in the killing of a freedom fighter and his wife in Rangpur.
