President exchanges Eid greetings, calls for collective effort to build just Bangladesh
President Mohammed Shahabuddin has called upon the nation to work together in building a “just, democratic, non-communal and prosperous” Bangladesh by embracing the values and spirit of Eid-ul-Azha.
In a video message delivered on Thursday (May 28) marking the holy festival, the President urged citizens to uphold the principles of unity, compassion, justice and equality in national life.
“Let us embrace the great ideals and values of Eid-ul-Azha in our hearts — not division but unity, not hatred but empathy, not selfishness but justice, not discrimination but equality,” he said.
The President also exchanged Eid greetings with people from different walks of life at Bangabhaban alongside his wife Dr. Rebeka Sultana.
Extending warm greetings and Eid wishes to the people of Bangladesh and Muslims around the world, Shahabuddin said Eid-ul-Azha strengthens the bonds of brotherhood, sacrifice, harmony and social solidarity among people.
He described the festival as a timeless and universal call to sacrifice hatred, arrogance and the “animalistic tendencies” within human beings.
In his message, the President urged affluent members of society to share the joy of Eid with the poor, underprivileged, relatives and neighbours, and to ensure their rightful share in the celebrations.
He also stressed the importance of protecting public health and the environment during the Eid festivities.
Calling for greater public awareness, the President requested citizens to cooperate with the authorities in the swift disposal of sacrificial waste and maintaining cleanliness across the country.
