President mourns death of Speaker's wife

President Md Sahabuddin has expressed deep shock and grief over the death of Dilara Hafiz, wife of National Parliament Speaker Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed (Bir Bikram).

In a condolence message, the President offered sincere sympathies to the Speaker and the bereaved family and prayed for the salvation of the deceased's soul. He said the nation will remember Dilara Hafiz's outstanding contributions to the education sector with gratitude.

Dilara Hafiz passed away while undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital at 1:29 pm local time on Saturday, March 28. She was 78 years old at the time of her death. She leaves behind her husband, a son, a daughter, grandchildren and many admirers.

Throughout her long career, Dilara Hafiz played a significant role in promoting education in the country. She served as principal of Eden Women's College and Sohrawardi College at various times. She also served as Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education under the Ministry of Education.
