Biplobi CHHatra Parishad convener Abdul Wahed has urged President Md Shahabuddin not to visit the Central Shaheed Minar in the first hour of Ekushey February.

He made this appeal from the ongoing public sit-in at Dhaka University's Raju Sculpture on Wednesday (February 19) afternoon.

Questioning the President's silence during the Awami League's genocide in July-August, Abdul Wahed said, "Our demand is that President Md Shahabuddin will not set foot on the Dhaka University campus, the birthplace of the July Revolution. He will not visit the Central Shaheed Minar in the first hour of Ekushey February."

He said, "We lost more than 2,000 brothers and sisters in July and August. But during the entire uprising, President Md Shahabuddin remained silent. Apart from this, it is also known that he became the President with the votes of illegal MPs in Sheikh Hasina's illegal election. Sheikh Hasina has fled. Parliament has been dissolved. The MPs have also fled. Yet he is still in office as the President. Although the students demanded his resignation, he did not step down. But the people did not accept him either. He is just surviving with the support of vested interests."

A public sit-in programme has been going on at Dhaka University's Raju Sculpture since February 13, demanding a ban on the Awami League and its allied political parties. Leaders and activists of the Biplobi CHHatra Parishad have joined the programme of the Chhatra Dal leaders.
