President visits shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal, Shahparan in Sylhet

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has visited the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shahparan (RA) during his one-day visit to Sylhet. He went to the two shrines at separate times on Tuesday afternoon, September 15, and offered prayers seeking peace, progress and prosperity for the country and its people.

The President arrived at Sylhet Osmani International Airport on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at 11:27am on Tuesday, September 15. He was welcomed at the airport by several government ministers, a National Parliament whip, the Sylhet City Corporation administrator, local MPs, BNP leaders and activists, and senior administration officials.

From the airport, the President went directly to Sylhet Circuit House, where a smart contingent of Bangladesh Police gave him a guard of honour. Later, around 12:30pm, he visited the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and took part in special prayers.

Then at 1:25pm, the President went to the shrine of Hazrat Shahparan (RA). Besides visiting and praying there, he offered Zohr prayers at the shrine mosque. At both shrines, the President prayed for the country's peace, the welfare of the people and overall development and prosperity.

Extensive security measures were taken in Sylhet city and at important installations centring the President's visit. Local BNP leaders, activists and ordinary people stood along various roads from the airport to the Circuit House to welcome the President.

After visiting the shrines, the President returned to Sylhet Circuit House. After lunch and rest, he is scheduled to attend a civic reception organised by Sylhet City Corporation at the Nagar Bhaban premises at 3:30pm.

He will later leave Sylhet for Dhaka by air at 8pm. This is his first visit to Sylhet since taking office as the country's 23rd President. His wife, Rahat Ara Begum, is also accompanying him on the visit.
