Police cordoned off a field in Savar on Wednesday (August 12) after locals found a pressure-cooker-like object wrapped in Scotch tape inside a drum, triggering a bomb scare in the area.

The object was discovered around 8:00am at a field near Goper Bari Ghora Mosque in Sadapur, under Bongaon union. Locals reportedly found a drum lying in the field and noticed a Quran, clothes and the suspicious taped object inside.

Police rushed to the scene after being alerted and secured the area, keeping residents at a safe distance. A bomb disposal team from Dhaka has been sent to the site to examine the object and determine whether it is an explosive device.

Police said local residents reported seeing three unidentified people leaving the drum in the area on Tuesday night. Their identities and the reason for leaving it there remain unknown.

Imran Hossain, in-charge of Bhabanipur police outpost under Savar Model Police Station, said the bomb disposal unit had been alerted and would determine the nature of the object after reaching the scene.

Police stressed that it was too early to confirm whether the pressure-cooker-like object was a bomb or explosive device. The cordon will remain in place until specialists complete their examination and take any necessary action.
