Government primary school teachers, protesting for three demands including 10th-grade pay, demanded resignation of the adviser of the interim government.

During their second day of protest at Shahbagh, teachers urged Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Education Adviser Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar to resign.

Md. Shamsuddin Masud, coordinator of the Primary Teachers’ Implementation Council, said, “The sit-in will continue until our demands are met.”

The move comes in response to Saturday’s police crackdown in Shahbagh, using batons, tear gas, and water cannons against the protesting teacher.

Over 150 teachers sustained injuries, with five arrested.

However, police said the measures were taken as protesters attempted to enter a state guesthouse area.

The three demands include 10th-grade pay, resolving promotion issues after 10 and 16 years of service, and 100% departmental promotion.
