With key demands still unmet, primary school teachers across the country will continue their full-day work abstention on Tuesday, forcing the annual examinations to remain suspended for the second consecutive day.

According to the Primary Teachers’ Demand Implementation Council, teachers nationwide are participating spontaneously in the ongoing programme.

In a statement issued Monday evening (December 1), Council Convener Abul Kashem Mohammad Shamsuddin said that teachers observed exam boycotts and work abstention for the third straight day.

He added that the sacrifice of colleague Shaheed Fatema Akhter and the bloodshed of more than two hundred teachers cannot be allowed to go in vain. With no visible progress on their demands—including placement in the 11th grade—the movement will continue.

The Council’s three-point demand includes: Upgrading assistant teachers’ pay scale to the 10th grade; Removing complexities in receiving higher grades after 10 and 16 years of service; Ensuring 100% departmental promotion from assistant teacher to head teacher.
