Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in Beijing on Wednesday evening (June 24) after concluding a series of high-level engagements at the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Annual Meeting of the New Champions, widely known as the Summer Davos, in the Chinese city of Dalian.

According to Deputy Press Secretary Md. Sujauddoula, the Prime Minister reached Beijing Chaoyang Railway Station at 5:35pm (local time) after travelling from Dalian aboard a high-speed bullet train. He had departed Dalian at 1:56pm (local time).

Earlier in the day, Tarique Rahman participated in the Summer Davos conference, where global leaders, policymakers, business executives and academics gathered to discuss emerging economic trends, innovation, technology and sustainable development.

The Bangladesh Prime Minister joined a panel of world leaders that included Guinea’s Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah, Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, South Korea’s Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, Mongolia’s Prime Minister Nyam-Osor Uchral and Montenegro’s Prime Minister Milojko Spajić.

This year’s forum brought together more than 1,700 participants from over 90 countries and regions, representing governments, businesses, academia and the media.

Tarique Rahman arrived in Dalian on Monday as part of the second leg of his first overseas tour since assuming office as Prime Minister. Before travelling to China, he visited Malaysia on a two-day official trip beginning on June 21, marking his first foreign visit after taking charge of the government.

The Beijing leg of the visit is expected to focus on strengthening Bangladesh-China relations, expanding economic cooperation and holding a series of bilateral meetings with senior Chinese leaders and officials.
