Prime suspect in Jubo League leader Parvez murder held in Dhaka
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Mamunur Rashid Mamun, the prime suspect in the murder case of banned Jubo League leader Zobayer Parvez, from Dhaka, nearly a month after the killing.
A joint team of RAB-7 and RAB-10 arrested Mamun during a raid in front of a hotel in the Banshpatti area of Lalbagh in the early hours of Thursday (July 30).
The arrest was confirmed by A.R.M. Mozzaffar Hossain, Assistant Director (Media) of RAB-7 Chattogram.
According to RAB, Zobayer Parvez was lured out of his home in the Samity Bazar area of Ghopal Union, Chhagalnaiya upazila, on the night of June 27.
Investigators allege that following an altercation, Mamun and several associates fatally slit Parvez’s throat before dumping his body into a nearby pond.
The victim’s body was discovered floating in the pond the following morning, after which police recovered it. Parvez’s father later filed a murder case with Chhagalnaiya Police Station.
RAB said the main accused had been in hiding since the incident.
Following a shadow investigation and the use of modern surveillance technology, law enforcement tracked his location and carried out the arrest in Dhaka.
Mamun, a resident of Nijkunjra village in Chhagalnaiya upazila, has been handed over to Chhagalnaiya Police Station. Officer-in-Charge Abu Taher said the accused will be produced before a court and sent to jail following legal procedures.
