Prisoners’ voting underway in Bogura, turnout 4 percent
Voting through postal ballots is underway at Bogura District Jail for the 13th national parliamentary election, with around 4 percent of inmates registering to vote.
According to jail sources, voting through postal ballots began on February 3 and February 8 is the final day of the process.
Bogura jail superintendent Faruk Ahmed told Views Bangladesh that the jail currently houses around 1,917 to 1,918 inmates, of whom 77 completed final registration to vote.
Explaining the low turnout, he said many inmates were released on bail after registration, and no one can be forced to vote as it is a matter of personal choice.
He added that final data on how many of the 77 registered inmates cast their votes will be available tomorrow.
