Private employees of govt colleges demand nationalization
Private employees of government colleges have organized a human chain to demand the transfer of their jobs to the revenue sector.
The Government College Private Employees Union made this demand in a human chain held in front of the National Press Club on Thursday (April 17), .
The demands are, the jobs of private employees in government colleges should be nationalized, temporary employees working in various colleges should be given priority for transfer to the revenue sector through the creation of new positions or filling vacant posts, no new appointments should be made except for the existing employees, job security should be provided for temporary employees, until nationalization, salaries and allowances should be provided according to the government pay scale.
Speakers at the event said, "We have been working in various positions (third and fourth class) in 330 government colleges across Bangladesh for 1 to 35 years, having been appointed by the respective principals. However, our jobs have not been transferred to the revenue sector. In 2013, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education amended the 1991 recruitment rules, leaving us out, and since 2000, we have been deprived of recruitment under the revenue sector."
They added, "Many of us are over 30 years old. We live a miserable life with our families on a meager salary. We are performing government duties in the offices of the colleges we work in. While many colleges have been nationalized, our situation is not being considered from a humanitarian perspective."
The human chain was attended by Mohammad Aminul Islam Amin, convenor of the movement implementation committee of the Government College Private Employees Union, Mohammad Faridul Islam, the secretary, and various leaders and workers from the organization.
