Private tuition will lead to MPO cancellation of teachers: State Minister Putul

State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin Putul has ordered school teachers to immediately stop private tuition and coaching. She warned that if any teacher is found giving private tuition in defiance of the directive, their MPO (Monthly Pay Order) facility will be cancelled. Additionally, all development allocations for that educational institution will also be halted.

The state minister made these remarks as the chief guest at an exchange meeting with teachers, students and local political leaders at Baramhati Cooperative High School and Bilayet Khan High School in Lalpur upazila of Natore on Saturday, August 8.

Farzana Sharmin Putul said the primary academic activities of students must be completed within the school classroom. If a student is weak in any subject, instead of pushing them towards private tutoring, the school itself should arrange additional classes.

She said the main studies of students must be completed in the classroom. If there are weaknesses in any subject, the school should arrange extra classes if necessary.

The state minister said the responsibility of teachers is not just to finish teaching in the classroom but also to ensure that students are properly understanding the subject. If the teaching activities in schools are strengthened, students will be less dependent on private tutoring or coaching outside.

She also announced a tough stance against the private tuition and coaching business. She warned that action would be taken against any teacher found giving private tuition in violation of government regulations. At the same time, if any institution allows such irregularities, its development allocations will also be halted.

Criticising the previous government over the current state of the education system, State Minister Farzana Sharmin Putul said the previous government had conspired to destroy the country's overall education system. The current government is committed to bringing the education sector out of that stagnation.

She further said the government is also seriously considering improving teachers' living standards. Along with ensuring necessary facilities for teachers, various steps are being taken to improve the quality of the education system.

Local administration, BNP leaders and activists, teachers, students and local dignitaries were present at the exchange meeting. The event, chaired by AB Union BNP President Abed Ali Mondal, was addressed by Lalpur Police Station OC Safikul Islam, former upazila BNP member secretary and former upazila chairman Harunar Rashid Pappu, and Bilayet Khan High School head teacher Moazzem Hossain, among others.
