Private university official suspended over Facebook post involving home minister
Muhammad Yunus, Assistant Controller of Examinations at the private Cox's Bazar International University, has been suspended over allegations of clicking the 'interested' option on a controversial Facebook event involving Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed.
An office order issued by the university's registrar office on Tuesday, March 18, conveyed this information.
The order stated that Muhammad Yunus had engaged with objectionable posts about the Home Minister on his personal Facebook and other social media platforms, which is contrary to the university's code of conduct and discipline. Such activities by a university official tarnish the institution's image, it added.
In this context, he has been temporarily barred from all administrative and academic activities. He has also been asked to submit a written explanation within seven working days as to why final action should not be taken against him.
University Trustee Board Chairman Mujibur Rahman said action was taken immediately after a post containing objectionable images related to the Home Minister came to their notice.
However, the accused official, Muhammad Yunus, has expressed regret and apologised on his personal Facebook ID. He stated that he had mistakenly clicked the 'interested' button on an event post, which was visible to his friend list for some time. Upon realising the matter, he removed it.
He further said it was an unintentional mistake resulting from carelessness. He has apologised to the Home Minister and the people of the country for this incident and pledged to be more cautious in the future.
