A three-member investigation committee has been formed following the deaths of six newborns at a ward of Ad-Din Hospital in the capital’s Moghbazar area.

The committee includes officials from the health department and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), authorities said on Wednesday (May 27).

The announcement was made by Director General of Health Services Professor Dr. Prabhat Chandra Biswas after visiting the hospital.

He said the committee has been instructed to submit its report within 72 hours. Authorities have also ordered the temporary suspension of the hospital’s post-operative ward and NICU services.

A health ministry official said that preliminary assessments suggest the incident may have been caused by a technical malfunction.

Meanwhile, a CID forensic team has already begun an on-site investigation to examine possible technical faults and determine the exact cause of the incident.
