Probe committee formed over Mirpur fire incident
A probe committee has been formed to investigate the fire that broke out at Shah Alam Chemical Warehouse and Garment Factory in Mirpur’s Rupnagar area of the capital. The committee is headed by Director (Operation and Maintenance) of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Directorate, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury.
Other members of the committee are Professor Dr Md Yasir Arafat Khan of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET); Deputy Assistant Director (Dhaka Zone-2) Atish Chakma of the Fire Service; PIO-cum-Adjutant (Mirpur Training Complex) Md Saidul Alam Chowdhury; Warehouse Inspector (Dhaka-23) Sohrab Hossain; and Senior Station Officer (Mohammadpur) Md Fasir Uddin. The committee’s member secretary is Deputy Director (Dhaka Division) Md Saleh Uddin of the Fire Service.
Confirming the matter on Thursday, October 16, Fire Service Headquarters Media Cell Officer Talha Bin Jasim said a seven-member committee had been formed from the Fire Service to investigate the Mirpur chemical warehouse and garment factory fire incident.
He said the committee would look into the origin of the fire along with all other related factors to identify the cause behind the incident.
