Probe tribunal formed over army officer’s alleged political involvement: ISPR
The Bangladesh Army has formed an investigation tribunal against one of its officers following allegations of political involvement, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Friday morning.
The statement said the allegation was received recently through law enforcement agencies. Acting promptly, the Army took the matter seriously and on July 17, the officer in question was detained from his residence in the Uttara area of the capital and taken into military custody.
To ensure a fair and impartial probe, an investigation tribunal was promptly formed. Preliminary findings have reportedly validated the complaint, ISPR confirmed. Upon completion of the investigation, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken under the Army’s existing laws and regulations, based on the evidence gathered.
The Army is also coordinating with the Bangladesh Police and other law enforcement agencies regarding the matter.
In addition, a separate tribunal has been formed to investigate the officer's unauthorized absence from duty. Legal measures will be taken based on the tribunal’s recommendations.
ISPR reiterated that the Bangladesh Army is a strictly apolitical, disciplined, and professional force. "There is no scope for political involvement within the Army," the statement said. "Any member found engaging in political activities will face action as per military law."
The Army remains committed to upholding professionalism, discipline, and its constitutional responsibilities, the statement added.
