Prof Dr Md Akhtar Hossain appointed chairman of Accreditation Council
The government has appointed Prof Dr Md Akhtar Hossain Khan, vice-chancellor of the State University of Bangladesh, as the new chairman of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) for a four-year term.
The appointment was made under the Bangladesh Accreditation Council Act, 2017, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Education on Sunday (July 26).
The gazette states that Dr Khan will receive the rank, salary, allowances and other benefits prescribed by law while serving as chairman.
It also notes that the government reserves the authority to revoke the appointment at any time, if necessary.
A distinguished academic, Dr Khan previously served as chairman of the Department of Soil, Water and Environment and dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences at the University of Dhaka. He assumed office as Vice-Chancellor of the State University of Bangladesh on February 1, 2025.
As chairman of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council, he will lead the country's statutory body responsible for ensuring quality assurance and accreditation in higher education.
