Prof Hazrat Ali appointed as KUET’s interim VC

The government today appointed Md Hazrat Ali, a professor at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), as the interim vice-chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET).

A gazette, signed by ASM Kashem, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Education, was issued on May 1 in this regard.

According to the notice, Dr Hazrat Ali has been appointed interim Vice-Chancellor of KUET with the approval of the President and Chancellor, in accordance with the KUET Act. He will serve in this position until a permanent Vice-Chancellor is appointed.

The notice further mentions that he will receive the same salary and benefits as in his current role and will be entitled to other allowances as per regulations. As the university’s chief executive officer, he is required to reside on campus full-time. The President and Chancellor reserve the right to revoke the appointment at any time if deemed necessary.

Earlier on April 25, the Ministry of Education dismissed KUET Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohammed Masud and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Sheikh Shariful Alam following student protests.
